The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a new rule allowing "Serious Injury Replacements" in domestic multi-day cricket matches.

This rule change, a significant amendment to the game, was prompted by injuries sustained by Rishabh Pant and Chris Woakes during the recent India-England Test series.

The replacement must be a like-for-like player from the nominated substitutes, with the match referee making the final decision after consulting with doctors and umpires.

The replacement player inherits any warnings, penalties, or suspensions of the injured player.

While the rule has received support from some, including India's head coach, others like England captain Ben Stokes have expressed opposition.

The rule applies only to multi-day domestic tournaments in India, excluding white-ball competitions and the IPL, and could potentially influence future international rule changes..
